Yan, Sydney’s ‘secret’ one-hat Asian smokehouse, has made its Melbourne debut bringing the renowned menu of smoked meats to the leafy suburb of South Yarra.
Known for its unique pan-Asian take on smoked meats, Yan has built a dedicated cult following since it opened in the unassuming suburb of Wolli Creek in 2019, attracting a coveted Chef Hat from the Good Food Guide in its second year of operation, with customers willing to travel far and wide to appreciate its contemporary approach to smoking Chinese and Japanese meat, seafood and vegetable dishes on a charcoal grill.
As the first and only outpost of the Sydney institution, Yan Melbourne will be led by its Sydney founder Narada Kudiner, Executive Chef Ewa Goralewski an alumni of Melbourne’s Dinner by Heston, and on the ground, Head Chef Joel Lee who has been at the venue for the last five years.
“We’re so excited to bring Yan’s unique offering to Melbourne. The ever increasing following we’ve created in Sydney in such a relatively short period fills us with confidence that we can replicate this success, even with a highly discerning Melbourne crowd” says Kudiner of the upcoming Melbourne debut.
Diners can expect to enjoy most of the dishes served up at the Wolli Creek flagship, such as beef tataki served with smoked mussels and an anchovy wasabi crumb; staff pick of smoked beef short rib, sautéed kale, mountain pepper; or the must-have dessert featuring coconut ice cream and coconut jelly and served in young coconut – a favourite on Instagram feeds across Sydney. However, new menu items developed for the unique Melbourne palate and utilising locally sourced ingredients will be developed and added to the menu over the next few months.
