VAMFF 2018: OPENING RUNWAY PRESENTED BY DAVID JONES

It’s arguable that fashion is most loved by Melbourne, and the opening runway of VAMFF this year was a brilliant love letter to the diverse style of the city’s well heeled. Breaking their huge roster of designers into trend sections, a kaleidoscope of colours, prints and silhouettes, led by super babe, Jessica Gomes.

Hitting the runway first were some of Australia’s favourite designers including Manning Cartell, Camilla and Marc and Bianca Spender – all in popsicle brights.

Tweed and plaid reigned throughout Karen Walker, Bec & Bridge and Hugo Boss. Ellery and Thurley were standouts with floral, feminine silhouettes presented, while Jac and Jack, bassike and Theory showcased amazing clean, minimal pieces in soft neutrals, perfect for layering.

The active archive section provided more than a little fitspo with splashed with primary colours and a raucous soundtrack.

Military is a trend that we always see revived for a cooler months, but at Viktoria and Woods and Atoir, think more Sherlock Holmes than just traditional camouflage.

Pinstripes in monochrome palettes were shown from STRATEAS.CARLUCCI and Maggie Marilyn, whereas Lee Matthews and romance was born flashed back to ladylike silhouettes of the past.

Clean lines and sharp tailoring were celebrated with Ellery and Aje, before the epic finale (filled with on-trend Gucci vibes) closed the show.
