Dramatic. Bold. Evocative.
The show everyone has been waiting for. The hype surrounding L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Red Carpet Runway has been outstanding. All week, all I have heard about is everyones anticipation in seeing this show, and they weren’t wrong to be excited. Saturday night’s final show closed the night in spectacular fashion with bridal and red carpet designs from designers Maticevski, Collette Dinnigan, Gwendolynne, Aurellio Costarella and Rachel Gilbert had the audience speechless and wanting to get married/re-married.
Highlights from the evenings show included a stunning parade from designer Akira whose soft natured silhouettes and satin flower cutout details creating a classic but modern woman. Paired with rich green bouquets of ferns and moss as well as off-white shawls and veils the Akira-woman is strong, clean and grounded.
Not to be outdone, Rachel Gilbert presenting a stunning collection full of princess like whimsy. The collection featuring simple and elegant shapes (most with a sweetheart neckline) was a perfect combination for the delicate silver embellishment and beading. Pairing the collection with orchids and violets seemed almost too perfect and was a match made in heaven. Perfect for the woman who has fabulous fashion forward taste with one foot firmly placed in classic style as well.
The absolute highlight of the evening was Maticevski’s series of gorgeous on trend and very fashion forward gowns. A straight cut dress with laser cutouts down the side was a modern showstopper with others detailed with raw fabrics, glossy corsets and free flowing materials adding much needed drama to an somewhat dry fashion landscape. Closing the entire show was Maticevski’s classic style dress with cathedral veil (perhaps should be renamed to runway veil) spanning the entire length of the runway and then some.
A fabulous evening that left myself amazed and inspired. With someone very special close by getting married very soon, I cannot wait to use all of the night imagery, drama and emotion in some of my (self appointed!) wedding planning.
